Frequently asked Questions

How do I contact you?
The best way to reach me is either through my phone or email.
My cell number is 778-316-1934.
My although my main email is supermariomaster635@hotmail.com,
I
'd prefer if you use this email: danarturomartinez@outlook.com.
It's more professional that way, plus, I'm more active with that particular email handle.

What software do you use for animation?
For 2D Animation, I use Toon Boom Harmony Premium.
For 3D animation, I use Autodesk Maya as my software of choice.
If you want me to use other software when the job calls for it, I'll make the switch but not for home use. Only work use.

What software do you use for other art related stuff?
I use Adobe Photoshop as my main art software tool, although I have a Nintendo 2DS XL that I use to draw my characters
and export the JPEG data to my PC via Lexar Three-In-One SD card reader.
For film editing, I use Adobe Premiere Pro as my editing software suite. Why? Because it's an industry standard... sort of.
The industry mostly uses AVID. I haven't used AVID but I can hazard a guess that
the interface is pretty much similar to Premiere.
And the learning Curve is pretty similar so I can at least check it out on my free time.
(My MSI Laptop can't run AVID but my custom built Maverick Falcon 7900RT PC can.)

What kind of animation do you do?
For 3D animation, there's not much to say considering the designs are constrained from polygon to polygon as well as bone structures.
But either way, the kind of animation I do is more-or-le
ss live-action style acting.
That's where I study how acting is done in live-action and translate that to CG.

As for 2D animation, I'm a strong advocate for hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation.
While I do make puppet-rigged animations from time to time, I don't agree with the idea that it's the only thing you can do in 2D animation. Animation is more about the craft than the technicalities. So what if you're drawings look
off-model huh? Back it up with writing or satire!
You don't need perfect outlines to make a story. Also,
I don't use standard cartoon acting since the constraints of a puppet rigs' construction leads to an awkward acting style. Just like with 3D animation, I tend to prefer live-action style acting when making my characters move.
The only time I use cartoon acting is when I need to exaggerate poses that don't look right in my preferred acting style.

What are my inspirations?
My inspirations come from 90's cartoons and Japanese anime. In fact, the anime inspiration is where my character designs originate from through trial and error. That's for art aesthetics but when it comes to acting, I lean more towards live-action acting.
Live-Action has more subtleties than cartoon acting.
Lets use STAR WARS for example. Compare a scene from the live-action movies to a scene from Clone Wars or Rebels and you can see where my arguments about live-action acting come from.

What are your thoughts on AI art?
I'm firmly ANTI-AI ART!!!
You won't see me resort to using AI tools like to generate my artwork. Human artis
ts are the best.
The only tools I need for digital art are Photoshop, GIM
P, Krita, Photopea, or whatever raster graphics software is available and even then,
I disable/ignore any AI tools that are advertised.
The rest are done with my wrists, my Wacom Stylus, multiple undo's via CTRL-Z, and sheer raw artistic talent.
Speaking about that, Yes I do have a CARA Account. Here's the link to that particular handle if you want to check it out:

What's up with your voice? It's changing pitches and tone!
I have issues with my vocal chords sometimes. No it's not allergies but the culprit is that I like to do my own voices as a way
to practice my
voice acting as well as my self-speech therapy due to my autism diagnosis.
However, years of screaming as per part of my acting have taken it's toll on my vocal chords.
One day I'll sound like your typical adult male but other days, my voice becomes soft and I sound like John Kricfalusi...
And there may be some days where I sound like I have a cold due to how moist my throat gets. (I tend to clear my throat often.)
Also, I tend to stutter when I speak but I do catch up.
Unlike a certain someone I know (Who's name I won't mention) who frequently backtracks his sentences.

Where do you live?
I live in the city of Vancouver, On the traditional and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

hopping, hanging out with friends, etc.

Why Custom Built and not Store-Bought?
The problem with store-bought Desktop PCs is not just the configurations by the OEM Manufacturers
but rather the hefty prices that the stores often give us.... and the unnecessary SOFTWARE BLOAT we don't need.
This is why I champion building your own Computer from OFF-THE-SHELF Parts.
Not only is it cheaper to build your own computer, it gives you better compatibility and a true upgrade path,
Plus, it's also more fun that way.
Truly what WILLIAM C. LOWE & PHILIP DON ESTRIDGE were both thinking back in 1981.

WHY AMD and not INTEL for your CPU?
AMD Ryzen Chips are cheaper but also more powerful in terms of both Base and Boost Clocks.
Plus, it's what most people are choosing when building their PCs.
Also, right now is not a good time to go for INTEL CPUS at the moment.
If you've read on the news, INTEL's been having major stability issues with their Core i7 & i9 Chips.
Although the company is working to fix these issues with BIOS Updates, the damage is already done.
If you still firmly want to stick with Intel, just wait for the Arrow Lake CPUS and LGA 1851 Motherboards to release to retail.

What computers did you have previously?
I have a page dedicated to PCs: https://danielarturomartinez.wixsite.com/danmartinez/danpcs.
But if you insist, here's my list.
My very first computer was a Compaq Presario 5477 which my father bought in 1999.
My second was a Vobis Highscreen Sky. Both the Compaq and Vobis Ran Windows 98SE.
Then I had an MDG Horizon 2400 running Windows XP.
I later had an HP Vectra running Windows 2000, then an indigo iMac G3.
After that, I switched to laptops. My first laptop was an HP Pavilion Laptop,
then I had a MacBook Pro.
Then an MSI GP62M 7RDX Leopard Gaming Laptop,
My first Custom-Built Maverick Warhawk RTX 5900x,

And finally, the aforementioned custom built Maverick Falcon 7900RT.

Who's Miso the Feline?
That's my cat. Her original name is Miso Soup. She's a domestic shorthair. She was born on July 16 2018 from a litter of four kittens.
I wanted to give her a new name but I've grown attached to her as a result that Miso stuck as a name.
Miso is quite a handful and sometimes her antics drive both my mother and I crazy but we love our kitty.

What made you so into computers?
I experienced computers at a very young age in 1999 when my father bought our family a Compaq Presario 5477 PC.
I've since had many other PCs throughout my childhood and at one point, worked in a computer repair depot called REBOOT.
Up until the early 2020's, I didn't really get into hardware tinkering until then but I now have the experience.
